Trauma-informed care is an evidence-based practice. This program is provided by trained staff who uses specific interventions that address the trauma and facilitates healing. As a result the client:
- Realizes the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths for recovery;
- Recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma
- Learns to respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into their daily lives
- Seeks to actively resist re-traumatization.
Clients achieve this by exercising the five (5) key principles:
- Safety
- Transparency and Trustworthiness
- Peer support and mutual self-help
- Collaboration and Mutuality
- Empowerment and choice
These interventions and teaching skills are necessary to break the cycle of trauma that many clients have experienced in their lives
